STIHL Carburettors

The carburettor prepares the fuel and air mixture needed for an engine to run. When it becomes worn, blocked or damaged, the engine becomes difficult to start, runs unevenly or struggles to maintain performance.

Garden Hire Spares stocks genuine STIHL replacement carburettors for a wide variety of STIHL garden and outdoor power equipment, from chainsaws and brushcutters to blowers and hedge trimmers.

What Does a Carburettor Do?

A petrol engine needs the correct mixture of fuel and air for combustion. The carburettor controls and delivers this mixture to the engine, responding to changes in throttle position and operating conditions.

In other words, the carburettor is very important, and since it’s directly involved in fuel delivery, problems with it will affect how an engine starts, idles and responds to the throttle.

Signs of a Carburettor Problem

Carburettor problems can have several causes, and not every starting or running issue means the carburettor itself needs replacing. However, common symptoms can include:

  • Difficulty starting the engine

  • Poor or uneven idling

  • Engine hesitation when accelerating

  • Loss of power

  • An engine that stalls during operation

  • Fuel-related issues around the carburettor

A carburettor may sometimes be serviceable through cleaning or adjustment, while a worn or damaged unit may require replacement.

Finding the Correct STIHL Carburettor

Start with the model number of your STIHL machine and compare it with the replacement part information. Where possible, checking the original carburettor part number is an even more reliable way to identify the correct component.

You can also use our STIHL Parts Diagrams to help identify individual components. And if you’re still not sure which carburettor you need, our STIHL Part Identification Service is there to help.
